Who should go to marriage counseling

Posted by Anna on 12 October 2009

In life and in any relationship there will be conflict.Naturally there will be some that are much worse than some others.  In a marriage these conflicts can lead to serious consequences. The toughest part is being able to know when is the right time to seek counsel. Because you don’t want to jump for a counselor from one argument. But you must know when you may need it.So what tells you when it will be needed?

That is a hard question.  As a San Diego marriage counselor helping people has allowed me to see who needs it.Because sometimes there will be a situation when it isn’t needed. But the counseling that takes place is usuallly pretty beneficial. But a sign that help may be needed is if the couple has very little communication.  If couples are fighting but still trying to work it out that is good.  But if the only time a couples talks is when they fight they need help. There is no communication there. And being able to know how to communicate is an important factor to fixing it.

Another tell tale sign is the coupel wanting to have nothing to do with the other person. That seems obvious but if a couple hates being in the same room with each other they need help.  I have seen a lot of couples come to that point while helping in couples therapy San Diego. If you can sense hatred, that is not a good sign.  This can lead to more harmful effects in the relaltionship.

Finally another sign I have seen doing marriage counseling San Diego is when it starts effecting the whole family.  If there are kids involved and you can see the emotional effects it is causing that couple needs help.It is bad enough the fights, but as soon as the children start getting affected they need to seek counsel.  They should avoid allowing the fighting to ruin the family.  If it does counseling is needed.

Couples counseling and its effects on a couple

Posted by Anna on 09 October 2009

Fighting or arguing is one of the unfortunate things that can happen in a marriage.I am pretty sure that there are no couple in the world who does not fight or argue. What’s unfortunate is when those fights become bigger than it should be.It is just but human nature that couples will fight and argue sometimes.  But it is when those differences seperate that make it unfortunate.

Dealing with couples as a San Diego marriage therapist has allowed me to see how difficult it is for some people to seek counseling.  There are those coupleswho don’t want anybody to know about the conflict.  Or there are some people who are too prideful to ask for help.  Then there are those that don’t believe there situation can be fixed. But if that is the case then that would be so sad.  Because with effective counseling most issues can be resolved.

It doesn’t just have to deal with married couples as well. Those in pre-marital relationships have problems and fights sometimes as well. But couples can let it go too far just like married coules.  I know because doing couples therapy San Diego has allowed me to see both ways. Those couples that has undergone counseling experienced a very good change in their relationship. While those that did not saw their relationships fade into thin air. Of course therapy is not the answer for all the problems but it can be a big help.

Why does couples counseling help?Because the one that would help you is a professional in this kind of thing. This professional has had a lot of experience in a lot of kind of situations.Experience can be an advantage in this kind of situation. With some very good and wise advice the situation can be turned around.  It can point out where the difficulties are. Then it can provide a plan of action so that a couple can fix their relationship.  Time and time again doing San Diego marriage counseling has proven this to be true.Even if it does not work the relationship is going to end anyway so there’s nothing to lose. But it can save a relationship from a bitter divorce if it does work.

Signs couples should look for in a relationship in trouble

Posted by Anna on 13 September 2009

All’s fair in love and war.  What does that saying really mean?  Are they saying there is a similarity between the two?Now it isn’t for sure that that is what they were trying to say, but there sure are a lot of things that are the same.

The similarities between the two I think are when that love becomes war.  It may still be love between the two but they are at each other like it is war.  I have seen this first hand doing couples therapy San Diego.A couple that once used to be loving now are constantly in battle. It is my main purpose is to be able to bring peace between the couple. And to bring back that once great love between the two.

So what are a few signs of trouble to look for?  One of the biggest warning signs is communication.  Or should I say lack of communication. For all relationships, being able to communicate is critical.Since it is so important, if in your relationship you start to see that you are not being able to communicate it is a sign.it is a sign trying to let you know trouble is starting.  Whether I am doing couples counseling or  marriage counseling in San Diego I see it all the time.Because in essence if the couple is not able to communicate, any little problem can turn into a big problem.  Proper communication helps avoid that.

So as a family counselor San Diego one of the biggest things I do is try to teach the couple how to communicate.  One of the biggest keys to communication is listening. Most people when they think of communicating think it is about talking. But truthfully if you are unable to listen very well, you won’t really be able to understand each other. So by assisting the couple to learn how to listen better, it will greatly improve their communications.

By being able to spot this sign, a couple will be able to better know that trouble may be starting. Now if the couple can spot this problem early in their relationship, they might be able to avoid some serious problems. From my experience the best way to solve problems in a relationship is to avoid them. But if you don’t spot that sign early, the prime way to solve the problem is to learn how to communicate.  Sounds simple but it will have a major affect.

Is marriage counseling effective

Posted by Anna on 05 September 2009

One of the hardest things a person can experience in life is marriage troubles. It can affect many things.Your job, your children, and even your health. It causes such powerful reactions emotionally it comes as no shock.

Most of the time things like this don’t happen overnight.Problems that occur in marriage usually start and then begin to grow.It is when it is in early stages like this when you want to stop it.  From my experience doing marriage counseling in San Diego I know it first hand. The relationships where you see it is most difficult to fix are the ones where the couple waited too long to find a way to fix it.

So hopefully I can show you the value of dealing with it early.Don’t take too long in dealing with it because then the anger and resentment can get too big.  Stop it early.

So I would like to offer some things to look for that would suggest a need for a couples counseling in San Diego.

There are quite a few reasons why relationships begin to fight. It could be money problems. It can be not being able to communicate.Whatever the situation could be you need to be able to recognize it right when it starts.

Take for example finances, if the fighting happens because of it that is not a good sign.  Yes money is important but fighting doesn’t help. And if you are fighting over it then you need to get somebody to help.  As a family counselor in San Diego I have seen couples wait too long.

Sometimes for some reason the couple could just not be communicating. There are quite a few reasons this happens. But if you see this problem happening, you need to do something about it. Not knowing how to communicate can be the reason to a lot of problems.  It can cause small problems to get bigger.  But if you realize that you two aren’t communicating well it is time.

Not learning how to communicate is the reasons small issues become larger. But when you have a counselor a couple might be able to learn how to communicate. They could learn some techniques that will teach them how to listen better.

Doing these few steps can avert a big marriage problem.Doing a little bit of preventitive measures can help in a lot of ways.

How To Save Marriage From Disaster

Posted by Christopher on 09 May 2009

How to save marriage from failing after a disastrous ad catastrophic event has taken place may seem like a hard thing to do, but it can be done. There are many times when something horrible has happened in the life of a couple that the stress ends up being too much to bear. These are times it is important to know how to save marriage.

The need to know how to save marriage can come as a result of something in the marriage or relationship falling apart as the two struggle to deal with what has happened. Many times it happens after the death of a loved one or especially a child. Sometimes it will happen after a wreck. Maybe it was because of some natural disaster or an act of hatred by some unknown entity. It could be because of illness to one of you or anything else that happened that caused your world to fall apart.

There are some very important things that are how to save marriage from ending you need to know. You need to understand that people act and react differently to events. The most obvious is the differences between how men and women typically deal with things. Some people repress feelings while others are more outward and more obvious in their grieving. Understanding this and accepting it will help go a long way in knowing how to save marriage. Don’t expect your loved one to react the same way that you do.

Another thing that you need to know is that grief many times rings out the worse in people and negative traits are often exaggerated. Patience is needed in understanding why some very negative changes take place in their personalities. You have to be able to see those changes taking place in yourself. Don’t excuse the behavior and don’t let harmful behaviors ruin things more but understand what is happening.

In both of the above marriage counseling is needed. Marriage counselors will usually be very adept at helping couples struggling through these times. Whether it is a Christian marriage or any other, there are places and people you can go to that will help you and the one you love get through this.

Here are some suggestions for other things that will help you get through this time:

~ Commit to each other that you are going to get through this together. Be a team fully supporting each other and understanding each other. When one is particularly weak at one point, be thereFind for them and help shoulder the load. Ask that the same be done for you.

~ Grow your support team. Find close friends and family that will help you through this. There is no reason that the two of you should go through this around. Find a network or a group of people who have gone through similar things. There is strength in numbers.

~ Find a reason to laugh again. Watch a silly sitcom on TV or some stupid funny movie. Watch one of those funny home movie shows for some good laughs. Spend time with fun loving people who you have a good time with Laughing will make you feel better and gives you a break from the weight you carry.

When you have suffered greatly, it doesn’t mean that the marriage has to come to an end. It can be made stronger if you are serious about finding how to save marriage.
